Introducing RaymondRaymond B. Chiu is currently assistant professor at the business school of Redeemer University, a private Christian university located in Ancaster, Ontario, Canada. Formerly he was an assistant professor at the Goodman School of Business (Brock University), a postdoctoral researcher at the Ivey Business School (Western University), and doctoral student at the DeGroote School of Business (McMaster University).
Raymond enjoys getting to know people of diverse backgrounds and learning how faith and morality are part of work experience. Through his research and speaking, he addresses topics connected with managerial ethics, leader character, organizational behaviour, human resources, faith integration, nonprofit management, charitable fundraising, marketing research, cross-cultural management, workplace diversity, and the theology of organization. The inner calling for his work comes from a strong commitment to the furthering of healthy relations and institutions, the building of a strong civil society, and the advancement of education about the organizations that are society's lifeblood—voluntary organizations, religious communities, and commercial enterprises. Raymond especially enjoys growing through life with his wife Lesley and three children, and engaging in the education of his children and others in his faith community. His pastimes include a variety of "silent sports," including biking, hiking, skating/hockey, rollerblading, cross-country skiing, and enjoying local trails with friends and family. |
BackgroundRaymond started as a professional civil engineer at Dillon Consulting. With a desire to use his environmental background for the community, he joined 761 Community Development Corporation and built green social enterprises to employ homeless people. He later became interim executive director at Parkdale/Liberty Economic Development Corporation, serving one of Toronto's most underemployed neighbourhoods.
He has taken on a variety of former roles in nonprofit management, including marketing research and environmental leadership in Canada’s largest charity, World Vision Canada, direct marketing for Tyndale University, and the board of directors of Talking Book Library. Raymond and Lesley currently enjoy hosting a fellowship for international students at their home under the direction of The Peoples Church and North York (Chinese) Baptist Church. In addition to his doctoral degree, Raymond holds a Master of Theological Studies degree from Tyndale University, a Bachelor of Applied Science degree from the University of Toronto, and a Master of Business Administration degree through the Nonprofit Management and Leadership Program at the Schulich School of Business, York University.
